BulletTravel to Paros, Greece

Paros is an island of Greece in Aegean Sea, is one of the largest in the group of Cyclades, and it's also a premier travel destination. It lies to west from Naxos, from which it's separated by a channel about 8 km (5 mi) wide, and with which is now known by travelers under the popular name Paronaxia.
This island is formed from a single mountain about 800 m (2500 ft) high, sloping evenly down on all sides to a maritime plain, which is broadest on the northeast and southwest sides. The capital, Paroikia or Parikia is situated on a bay on the northwest side of the island and it occupies the original site of ancient capital Paros. Its harbor admits just small ships & yachts because the entrance is dangerous due to the rocks.
Paros, like any other main travel destinations of Greece, has a few well developed vacation resorts dotted with all-inclusive hotels and luxury villas for rent.

The houses built in Italian style - with terraced roofs, shadowed by luxuriant vines and surrounded by gardens of oranges and pomegranates - give to the town a picturesque aspect. You'll find here the remains of a medieval castle built almost entirely from ancient marble remains. The traces of antiquity are numerous in the town. In the main square of Parikia is located the island's main church named Ekatontapiliani - one of the main attractions for vacationers. Its oldest structures almost certainly antedate the official Roman adoption of Christianity. Some experts believe that the church was founded by mother of emperor Constantine, Saint Helen, during her pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The church has two adjoining chapels and a baptistery.
On the north side of the island is the bay Naoussa or Agoussa, forming a safe harbor. A another good harbor is Drios, on the southeastern side. Villages Tragoulas, Marmora and Kepidi, situated on an open plain on the eastern side of the island, probably occupy the site of an ancient town. They are known together as the "villages of Kephalos", from the steep headland of Kephalos. On this headland stands an abandoned monastery of St. Anthony, near the ruins of a medieval castle, which belonged to the Venetian family Venieri.
The main vacation resorts of the island have a few really good all-inclusive hotels and luxury villas which offer accommodations at affordable rates and a plenty of holiday activities.

The marble from Paros, which is white and semi-transparent, with a coarse grain and a very beautiful texture, was the main product of this island. The marble quarries lie on the northern side of a mountain anciently known as Marpessa. The marble was exported from the 6 century B.C. and was used by many great Greek sculptors, such as Praxiteles. At the entrance to one of the marble quarries is a bas-relief dedicated to the god Pan and the Nymphs.
Nowadays the main occupation of the inhabitants is the tourism. As a premier travel destination of Greece, Paros offer a large number of accommodations in well developed vacation resorts: rooms in local houses, apartments, all-inclusive hotels, and luxury villas. On the island you'll find modern restaurants along with picturesque taverns, all offering you specific Greek dishes. Naxos is also a paradise for the lovers of beach activities; they can exercise here parasailing, water-skiing, jet-skiing, snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming, sailing, and other sports.
