A Greek legend
As all islands of Greece, Naxos is part of many legends and myths. A legend say that in the Heroic Age, before the Trojan War, on this island Theseus abandoned Ariadne, daughter of Minos, King of Crete, after she had helped him kill the Minotaur and escape from Labyrinth. Dionysus, the god of wine and protector of the island, met her and fell in love... Dionysus got married she, but Ariadne, unable to bear her separation from Theseus, killed herself and climbed on heaven, being now a constellation - the constellation of Ariadne.
