Travel to Kos, GreeceKos or Cos is an island of Dodecanese Islands, in the Aegean Sea, nowadays being a premier travel destination in Greece. The island is small, it measures 40 km by 8 km and it's only 4 km away from the coast of Bodrum, a city in Turkey. The island is part of a chain of mountains from which it became separated after earthquakes that occurred in ancient times. These mountains include Kalymnos, Kappari, volcano Nisyros and all other surrounding islands.
Beaches of Kos are washed by the waters of Karpathian Sea, its coastline is 112 km long. Many of its beaches are really beautiful, have great vacation amenities and consist from white sand. Farming is the main occupation for many of the island's inhabitants, their main products being grapes, almonds, figs, olives, tomatoes, along with wheat and corn.
Great hotels, villas & apartmentsThe main port and city on the island is also called Kos. This harbor is the principal gate to island for travelers and also it's the main cultural center; it has whitewashed buildings and features a large number of hotels, villas, apartments, restaurants, and a small number of nightclubs. The city has a fortress from 14 century, located at the entrance of the harbor, erected in 1315 by The Knights of Saint John of Rhodes. The ancient physician Hippocrates is thought to have been born on Kos; in the center of the town you'll find the "Plane Tree of Hippocrates", a place where the physician is traditionally supposed to have taught. The main city on Kos is also home to the International Hippocratic Institute and the Hippocratic Museum, both dedicated to him.
Main vacation resortsThe main villages of the island Kos are Kardamena, Kefalos, Tigaki, Antimachia, Mastihari, Marmari and Pyli. Smaller ones are Zia, Zipari, Platani, Lagoudi and Asfendiou. Kardamena is now a popular vacation resort for travelers from many countries and features a large number of hotels, luxury villas, bars, and nightclubs.
