A legend says that in the Heroic Age, before the Trojan War, Theseus abandoned on this island Ariadne, daughter of Minos, King of Crete, after she helped him killing the Minotaur and escaping from Labyrinth. Dionysus, the god of wine and protector of the island, met her and fell in love... Dionysus married she, but Ariadne, unable to bear her separation by Theseus, killed herself and climbed to heaven, being now a constellation - the constellation of Ariadne!
