Holidays in Halkidiki Greece - Tours & Holiday AttractionsHalkidiki is located in the southeastern part of Macedonia Greece and is a large peninsula consisting of three smaller peninsulas - Kassandra, Sithonia and Ayion Oros (or Mount Athos in English). Monasteries of Mount Athos are located on the easternmost peninsula and visited (only by ship, along the shores!) by most tourists who spend holidays in this part of mainland in Greece.
Halkidiki attracts every year a lot of holiday makers with stunningly beautiful scenery, crystal-clear waters, small villages and secluded beach resorts dotted with budget and all inclusive hotels. Kassandra is a peaceful place with gorgeous sandy beaches and pine tree forests overthrowing in the aqua marine sea. Being a top travel destination on mainland, on Kassandra are present numerous vacation facilities, accommodation units, restaurants and plenty of entertainment centers.
Holiday on SithoniaSithonia is the middle peninsula of Halkidiki and its beauty is similar to Kassandra. On Sithonia are secluded harbors, sandy beaches, little bays, big olive plantations, green pine forests and old villages made up of houses and churches with ancient architecture, all this points of interest being top holiday attractions to people visiting the area. Vacationers relax on large white-sand or golden beaches where pine trees go down up to the waves of the Aegean Sea! Perhaps the idyllic way of life has been invented there!
All beach resorts in Sithonia such as Vatopedi, Metamorphossi, Nikiti, Agios Nikolaos, Pirgadikia, Sarti, Neos Marmaras, Vourvourou, Ormos Panagias and Sikia feature budget and high end accommodation estates, most of them offering excellent vacation amenities. In this area can be admired the rural architecture of houses in Ormylia, the beautiful beaches in Nikiti or Metamorphossi, the flowery squares in Agios Nikolaos, and the wonderful small islets located close to shores of Pyrgadikia, Vourvourou and Ormos Panagias.
Holiday on Mount Athos - Ayion OrosMount Athos is situated on the easternmost peninsula of Halkidiki, called "Ayion Oros". The borders of Mount Athos (which is a religious republic) begin at "Fragokastro" on the western side and reach cape "Arapis" on the opposite side. The natural beauty of the peninsula is unique, just like the architecture of the monasteries settled there! Yet, tours of Mount Athos can be taken only aboard of small ships which navigate along its shores.
Mount Athos is a self-governed division of the Greek state. Politically it is led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but religiously is led by the Ecumenic Patriarch of Constantinople. The republic is divided in twenty self-governed territories, each of them with a leading monastery. The abbots of the monasteries are members of the Holy Assembly and exercise legislative authority.
